Friends of Pastiche

My inspiration comes from many people and places. Mostly from my thoughts. My brain constantly churns over hoping and wanting to create new ways of scrapbooking, looking for a new and exciting way to represent what I love. Other times, it's about all the many talented and creative people out there in cyber space and in magazines presenting their work for others to see.

I have to admit I actually spend a lot of my time reading my favourite blogs and magazines, pinning my favourite layouts and just gazing upon the intricacy or simplicity of someones page and the remarkable way it somehow takes my breath away.

The following influences have contributed to my inspiration and my journey and in return I hope I have inspired others through them. xx

Someone who couldn't be missed as a friend and a massive influence for me, is the lovely Pam Kuhn Kaszazz consultant No# 103493. For many years now, Pam has been by my side encouraging and critiquing my style and recently enabled my first publications ever in the latest Kaszazz product catalogue. You could say that it's Pam's fault that I'm so addicted to scrapbooking, not that she'd mind lol. She's the first influence I ever had the pleasure of meeting and laughs like mad when recalling one of my statements made to her at a craft party a very long time ago (Circa 1999) ..... "I don't do scrapbooking, it's not my thing!". WOW ....... haven't things changed since then?

I never imagined that I would have the chance to present my work in this way, and yet, I have. The team over at Off the Rails Scrapbooking Challenge Blog asked me to contribute as part of their Design Team and I couldn't have been any more flattered if I tried. I will always be forever grateful for their confidence in me and giving me the start I needed in this perfect world of creativity I have come to love so much.

Never in a million years would I have thought that I could win a monthly sketch challenge. I enter them regularly because I love the challenges they present. I feel it pushes me out of my creative comfort zone and for anyone who knows me well, I'm not a zone sitter! I discovered this brilliant challenge blog only days into my Blogging journey and fell in love with their sketches immediately. Amazingly, my first creation I entered into their monthly blog was honored in their top five and I was asked to contribute as a guest designer. The very next month I was recognised again and I followed up with another opportunity to contribute. This experience has been invaluable and I am so pleased that they have enjoyed my entries.

Another friend who has helped me along my scrapping journey so far is Jasmine Shea. Her inspiration has been invaluable to me, but even more so, here belief in my ability to contribute something worthwhile has built my confidence more than she could ever know. Jasmine is an amazing artist who gained a position on the Scrapbook Creations Design Diva team for 2013. I'm so thankful that she "spotted" my designs and gave me the opportunity to spread my wings and give me my first publication opportunity.

I have to include Beck Beattie in my list of inspirational people as well. When she contacted me and asked me to be a part of her team over at Scrappy Chat Designs I could have died with excitement (luckily I didn't!). I had seen Beck in Melbourne only months before hand at the Scrapbook and Paper Craft Fair in 2013. I wanted to go up to her and tell her how much of an inspiration she was to me but she was surrounded by other admiring followers. So when her message came through to me, I couldn't believe my luck. I will always remember her opening sentence to me .... "Hi I'm Beck Beattie, you may not know who I am but ....." Bahahahahah if only she had known. Now I enjoy creating, laughing and sharing with Beck and the team on a regular basis.

Recently I have been asked to join the team over at SATW. I was so humbled and honored when Helen Tilbury asked me to jump on board. It has been a massive learning curve and a pleasure to be a part of. I could never imagine I would be surrounded by so many talented artists.

Chipboard would have to be one of my all time favourite embellishments so when Vanessa from 2Crafty contacted me and said she wanted me on her team I was so excited!!! I love creating for her every month and her support towards my teaching at various workshops has been AMAZING! Every request for support in the form of chipboard for my workshop kits has been accepted, in fact I would have to sat more like "embraced"! Vanessa has shown so much confidence in me and my art and I feel very proud to show off her beautiful chipboard to the Scrapbook world!

One of the most unbelievable things that happened to me in 2014 was a little message that came through from a lovely lady called Meredith Treloar. She is one of the organisers along with Amanda Hall from a little place in South Australia called Cummins that holds one of Australia's most successful retreats! So successful in fact, that it books out in under a minute when bookings for the following year open via email! The message ...... was asking me to teach!!! 80 participants ... many of them very well known and talented artists in their own right .... and then me ... teaching! I am so glad i said yes. It was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. I met so many beautiful people and forged friendships that will last a lifetime. I know it sounds dramatic but it was honestly a life changer for me. So incredible that it remains to this day, the highlight so far of my scrapbooking journey!

So in 2014 I was encouraged by my scrappy peeps to enter the Scrapbooking Memories Masters competition. I never in a million years thought I would ever be considered but ...... I got the call one morning to say I had been chosen and I couldn't believe what i was hearing. I am so excited and privileged to be named with so many other amazing scrappy artists in Australia. The experience has been amazing and taken me to places I never imagined I would ever go! I will be forever grateful for the opportunities it has given me.

Now there's a mouthful for you! Tusia Lech, founder of 7Dots Studio, manages a fabulous Polish challenge blog called Scrapki-Wyzwaniowo. The designers on this team are AMAZEBALLS!!! Some of the best in the business! and she asked ME to join ..... I am having a blast using all the fantastic 7Dots Studio products and my creative rubberband is being stretched beyond anything I ever could have imagined. I LOVE IT! Every month I I think the challenge will do me in but every month I create something and amaze myself!!! It is a very good place to help search my soul for the best artist I can be.

7 DOTS STUDIO - 2016
So a dream came true and the world opened up a AAZING opportunity for me. I have always loved 7 Dots Studio ever since I discovered it back in 2013. I applied as a Guest Designer and received an offer as a full time team member. I seriously could have been knocked over with a feather! So many talented people on this tea, so many of my truly blessed.

13ARTS - 2016
OMG!!! How did this happen? SO gobsmacked that a team as talented and amazing as this one would want me to create for them. I have been addicted to 13@rts sprays and paints for about a year now and I always use the in my creations. When I was successful in making the team and the DT box arrived, I seriously thought I'd died and gone to heaven! Some of my favourite people are on this team and have become very close friends. This is truly a dream come true.

I Looooooove stamps and so when the call for VLVS came up I decided "What the Heck". Best thing I ever decided. I am totally addicted to these stamps and this crazy bunch of very talented people, in particular the amazing DeeDee Catron! Our friendship has blossomed since joining this team and we get along like a house on fire. Her quote "My Tribe". What an honor. I have always loved DeeDee's style her UmWOW Studio products.

I have no words ......... I actually have no words.... I know!! My application went a bit like this ..... "I honestly don't know where to start. I can't even imagine how many applications you must be receiving for this call so I'll make it short and sweet. ... " LOL and then proceeded to write about 4 paragraphs! But it must have worked because I got that email!! YAY!!! Can't wait to see what 2017 brings!

Last but certainly not least, is my scrapping partner Sandi Spink. Sooooo many hours spent creating with this clever lady. Too many to count. She doesn't realise how talented she is and just how much scrapping inspiration she gives off when we scrap together. Whether she's sitting there stitching a bear or knitting some crazy arse poncho, she always manages to share her creative vibe with me xx

The only artist you should ever compare yourself to is the one you were yesterday.
